Rock Chips on I-85 and US 29? Fix Them Early

Why Small Chips Spread

Gaffney sits on the I-85 corridor in the Upstate, and US 29 runs right through the center of town. Interstate freight and the steady flow of traffic through Gaffney mean a constant supply of flying stones. A chip that bakes in the summer sun and then gets cold air from the vents is likely to run.

Repair vs Replace: A Quick Check

• Smaller than a quarter with no legs: repair.
• A single crack past dollar-bill length: replace.
• Edge breaks or damage in the driver’s view: replace.
