Driving I-95 and US 76 Around Florence

Why Small Chips Spread

Florence sits at a junction of I-95, I-20, US 76, US 301 and US 52. Long-haul trucks and fast traffic mean flying stones, and the Pee Dee’s hot summers put extra stress on a chip already in the glass.

Repair vs Replace: A Quick Check

A chip under the size of a quarter and away from the edge: repair. A crack running toward the edge or longer than a dollar bill: replacement.

Keeping a Chip From Spreading on Long Highway Runs

Florence sits where I-20 ends at I-95, so plenty of local driving means long stretches at highway speed. If a stone hits on the way, note when and where it happened, cover the chip with clear tape, and keep the defroster on a gentle setting rather than aiming hot air at cold glass. A sudden change in temperature is one of the most common ways a small chip turns into a long crack. Book the repair as soon as you can: the earlier the resin goes in, the cleaner the finished repair looks.
